This is my Final magazine front cover. I have used one of the mid shot images from my photo shoot that I felt was most appropriate. The image I have chosen really suites the artist's 'cocky' personality because of his success and reputation. Hip hop artists in this genre all fight to have the 'biggest ego' or to be the most recognised and respected artist. His dominant, confident posture and facial expression make the reader look up to him more, like a role model. I have edited the brightness levels, the contrast, colour curves and exposure of the image. I have done this to make the artist look refined. The way the artist looks and is portrayed generally reflect the wealth of the artist, which is a big part of the hip hop genre.
Following on from this I have also layered the mast head in front of the main artist image to give the focus on the magazine name. I think this is important particularly as this is a first issue magazine and currently not recognised The audience needs to be able to easily read the name of the magazine as they wont have seen it before so it won't be recognisable The title is very bright and bold which grabs the audience's eye. It is very important that it stands out because it is a first issue so it needs to take the audience's attention away from the more well known magazines. The color scheme of the title goes with the theme of the magazine. The title is filled with the colours of the galaxy which fits with the name of the magazine. The colours are also very bright which help to attract an audience.
I have kept the cover very simple. This is because I want the magazine to have a classy up-market. I wanted to help to portray the more glamorous, wealthy side of Hip hop rather than the darker side of it as I feel that it would appeal to a wider audience. I used the rule of three to help keep this classy image. Using black, grey and one colorful piece makes certain pieces of the page stand out more than others. Eg. The mast head stands out the most, then the main cover story and image, and then the secondary stories. This is the order in which the audience would view the page so it is important that the right parts of the page stand out.
I chose to put the bar code where it is because that is quite an insignificant part of the picture. It stands out on the page well so that it can easily be found when the cashier is scanning it, but doesn't obstruct any features of the front page. I have chosen to also include a QR code because this means that readers with smart phones would be able to use it to compare prices and find deals on the magazine nationwide, possibly increasing the audience size.
